Exhibition by Brigid McGuire ‘On the Edge’ opens in Áras Inis Gluaire, Béal an Mhuirthead on Thursday 11th November @ 7pm ” Her latest work draws influences from her surroundings, capturing the essence of the sea rather than a literal interpretation. Focusing on the point where land and sea connect and overlap, she captures the mood evoking images of depth and darkness. Evoking abstract images of the sea and its edges, her powerful, carefully considered works, are infused with the spirit of a place without being site specific. By abstracting the elements,Brigid’s works exquisitely play with a strong sense of colour, using darker shades of blues and greens t o express the richness of her subject matter.Brigid’s work, in part a reflection of her character, has an honesty and integrity to it, which close up can be appreciated in detail. Layers of colour subtly seep through, providing a visual and physical depth to her works, some of which take on a 3-Dimensional quality. Experimenting with composition,colour,light and technique to evoke the spirit of a place, her latest work is a celebration, capturing a snapshot of the rawness and abstract beauty of life on the periphery.”
