KAVA is pleased to present a solo exhibition of Mavis Gormally’s paintings entitled, Path to Home . There will be an opening reception at 7:30pm Friday 15th July, all welcome. The exhibit will then be open every day through Sunday 24th July in the Old Courthouse, Kinvara from 11:30am – 5:30pm.

This body of work was executed during the Covid 19 pandemic. Lockdown allowed Mavis to slow down and observe nature and appreciate the views and wonders of places close to where she lives. She is grateful to have enjoyed a close relationship to this rustic and diverse land. Painting these works deepened her connection with South Galway in a whole new way. She realized the action of painting enhanced her intimate appreciation of the area and she felt the home she has searched for since she left New York. Her intention with this collection is to share her vision of these amazing local gems so that others may also gain a sense of place and feel comforted by the land in these trying times.

More than thirty paintings will be on display.  Mavis’s work depicts landscapes, heritage sites, and seascape scenes of the Gort, Kinvara, and surrounding areas.  Among her subjects, she has captured Thor Ballylee, The Gort River Walk, Coole Park, and the Pier in Kinvara.

Mavis was born in New York City, raised on Long Island, and relocated to Gort in 2003. Though moving from New York to Gort was a big change, Mavis has found great inspiration for her subject matter, the landscape, in the rural surrounds. A fine artist and painting tutor, Mavis enjoys sharing her passion for art through teaching the art of painting in her locality. She currently teaches preteens, teens, and adults from her home studio and has been sharing her knowledge and love for art in this way since before she moved to Ireland.
