Showgrounds Shopping Centre
In the early 1970s, artist Robert Ballagh received his first major commission with a series of eighteen panels for the Five Star Shopping Centre in Clonmel. These pieces by a pioneering Irish artist, that observe and chronicle Irish people of the period as they stand and observe in a heightened realistic setting, had a profound
effect on a generation of Clonmel people, informing their visual references as well as the sense of place they felt towards their environment. The availability of the work in the mall of a shopping centre made it a startlingly democratic and accessible piece of public art.
Exhibition is running as part of the Clonmel Junction Arts Festival 2019 and artwork is kindly on loan from Tipperary County Museum.
