We are pleased to reopen Ards Arts Centre to the public again, following a six-month closure due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Raquel Amat Parra’s exhibition, UNDER THE PHOENIX EYE, opened in our Georgian Gallery in March but then closed when the building was temporarily closed to the public.
We are delighted to give visitors a second chance to visit this beautiful exhibition when we reopen from Monday 28 September.
Under the Phoenix Eye is a product of a residence program that Raquel Amat Parra undertook at Guanlan Original Printmaking Base in China during summer 2019.
Raquel’s stay in this 300 year old village and its breath taking landscape inevitably influenced her work. The spark of the work came from the Melaluca trees in her daily route towards the studio. Being core to the invention of Egyptian papyrus and its relevance between paper and printmaking created a strong connection to further develop this topic.
Raquel collected bark, bamboo, leavers and natural materials as a first-hand resource both to create her own tools and marks for her imagery.
