DESCRIPTION:Representing Nature - An Exhibition by Colin Watson RUA\n\nArti
 sAnn Gallery\, 70 Bloomfield Avenue\, Belfast\, BT5 5AE\n\nWed 2nd July to
  Sat 30th August\n\nLate Night Opening: WED 2nd July from 6 to 8pm\n\nWed
 – Sat: 11am to 5.30pm\n\n( Gallery closed Fri July 11th and Sat July 12t
h)\n\nwww.artisann.org\n\nThe paintings in the show all have great persona
l significance to Colin. These smaller paintings are more spontaneous that
his larger works\, but there remains a desire to infuse each picture with
a certain degree of mystery.\n\nAlthough the choices of subject are perso
nal\, the paintings\, hopefully\, are also universal and have meaning beyo
nd the painter’s initial inspiration.\n\nAlongside studies towards fully
realised paintings this exhibition also presents stand alone\, spontaneou
s\, intuitive works that directly respond to observed natural phenomena. T
his selection of works represents a cross section of his working methods b
eyond the finished paintings.\n\nColin Watson lives and works in Belfast.
He has held seven solo exhibitions in London\, as well as in Dublin\, Nort
hern Ireland and Morocco. In October 2008\, Colin was invited by HRH The P
rince of Wales to accompany him on the Royal Tour of Japan\, Brunei and In
donesia\, as his official Tour Artist.\n\nColin Watson has exhibited at th
e Royal Academy in London\, the Royal Ulster Academy and the Royal Hiberni
an Academy\, winning awards at the latter two including two gold medals at
the Royal Ulster Academy\, one awarded by the President of the Royal Acad
emy\, Sir Christopher Le Brun. He was also awarded the Ireland Fund of Gre
at Britain Annual Arts Award in 1999. His work has been included in the BP
Portrait Prize Exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery\, The Royal So
ciety of Portrait Painters annual exhibitions and at the Discerning Eye at
the Mall Galleries in London.\n\nColin Watson’s work is held in collect
ions worldwide\, including the Royal Collection of His Majesty King Charle
s III and in the collection of the King of Morocco. He is also represented
in a number of public collections\, including the Ulster Museum\, Morocca
n Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art\, the Arts Council for Northern Ir
eland\, the National Self-Portrait Collection of Ireland\, Limerick and th
e Royal Geographical Society\, London with a portrait of Sir Wilfred Thesi
 ger\, the British explorer and travel writer.\n\nAt noon Sat 26th July\, a
s part of EastSide Arts Festival\, there will be a special British Sign La
nguage event with BSL interpretation of a gallery tour by gallery owner Dr
Ann McVeigh. This is free\, with no booking required.\n\nAll artworks are
available to buy.\n\nYou can also buy art from this exhibition through th
e Own Art scheme which gives you an interest-free loan over 10 months (and
you still get to take the art home immediately the exhibition ends).\n\nA
