Exhibition of fine art photographic prints at the Drawing Studio, 74 Merrion Square South, this weekend. After the phenomenal success of the Dowth Hall launch of the show Shadows in the Valley, please join The Drawing Studio for Emile Dinneen’s exhibition of hauntingly beautiful photography shot over three years in the Valley of Kings. Developed with support from Meath County Council Arts Office, this evocative photographic series- part cinematic visual essay, part screenplay, part poetic personal testament- narrates an imagined personal history exploring the spiritual underbelly of the Boyne Valley. “Beautiful photographic prints capturing the magic and beauty of this most ancient landscape at affordable prices- an opportunity not to be missed” Irish Times The exhibition will take place this weekend- Friday 14th-Sunday 16th December. From 6-8pm on Friday 14th December, Emile will give a talk about his work. The exhibition will continue on Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th December from 12-8pm. “Walking amongst the fern lined glens, fields and leafless trees, we felt a world just below the surface, some thriving spiritual metropolis, the incessant chatter of voices long dead, speaking through rustling leaves, amongst shadows, the unfathomable influence of forgotten ancestors. The psycho-geography of this landscape is rich in life, yet with this life also comes decay. The ivy creeps upon the stone and we are reminded that our time here is fleeting, our monuments, however grandiose, temporary” www.drawing.ie Emile Dinneen is an Irish film director who grew up in Uganda. While in school in East Africa he began documenting the customs of the semi-nomadic Dinka herdsmen in Southern Sudan and made his first film during the civil war there in 2001. Since then he has worked for some of the UK’s leading directors while pursuing personal projects exploring history, myth and memory. His most recent short film Rebirth – an interrogation of the experience of photographer Guy Martin to the epicenter of the war in Libya, won the jury award at Stranger than Fiction. He recently premiered his film the Battlefield, an unorthodox portrait of renowned Irish artist Mick O’Dea at the Irish Film Institute. Shadows in the Valley is his ongoing exploration of the land he calls home.
