DESCRIPTION:\nThe exhibition SONANCE brings together a series of abstract w
 orks on Japanese paper\, canvas and wood through which the artist explores
  states of transition. The sources of the paintings include references to 
 ancient geological maps\, the edges of seascapes\, exposing the layers of 
 the Anthropocene and human displacement. An engagement with realms of deep
  time informs the imagery\, transforming the invisible and the imagined in
 to a resonant visual language. McDonald’s paintings combine intense sequ
 ences of oil paint with natural materials such as iron-rich oxides\, cinna
 bar\, malachite and plaster\, producing works charged with movement\, soun
 d\, and rhythm.\n
