DESCRIPTION:\nJoin us for the opening of 'Sonorous Tones' by Geometric Hard
 edged Colourist Painter Francis Tansey'. The Exhibition will be opened by 
 Mr. John Cunningham\, Board Member and Chair of Collections and Acquisitio
 ns for The Irish Museum of Modern Art.\n\n\n\n“I believe colour is a uni
 versal language common to all people\, I have dedicated my time over the p
 ast forty years to understanding it’s principals and properties.” Fran
 cis Tansey.\n\n\n\nFrancis Tansey was born in Dublin in 1959 and has been 
 one of the most popular Irish artists over the last four decades. He studi
 ed at the National College of Art and Design in (1978-1983) specializing i
 n abstract art and in 1985 he became the first Artist in Residence\, at Th
 e Butler Gallery\, Co. Kilkenny\, where his brightly coloured geometric ac
 rylic painting’s caused great interest.\n\n\n\nTansey’s unique distill
 ation and interpretation of Colourism gained him immediate recognition wor
 ldwide and particularly in Ireland. He first rose to prominence with his i
 nclusion in R.O.S.C. in 1988 as the youngest artist ever to have exhibited
  in this prestigious International Exhibition. Tansey employs a hard-edged
  geometric style\, using acrylic paint in a glazing technique reminiscent 
 of a renaissance master with many layers of glazes to create vibrant colou
 r field paintings in a modern abstract geometric colour language\, that is
  his own.\n\n\n\n\n
