SUMMARY:Staying with the Trouble | Group Exhibition at IMMA
DESCRIPTION:An ambitious new group exhibition\, Staying with the Trouble\,
inspired by author and philosopher Donna Haraway’s seminal work of the s
ame name\, opens at IMMA (Irish Museum of Modern Art) on Friday 2 May 2025
. The exhibition features over 40 Irish and Ireland-based artists whose di
verse practices explore urgent themes of our time.\n\nPushing against soci
al norms\, Staying with the Trouble challenges us and attempts to make sen
se of the present\, questioning interspecies relationships\, ideas of tran
sformation\, and renewal. The exhibition challenges human-centric narrativ
es\, advocating for a multi-species/multi-kin perspective through sculptur
 e\, film\, painting\, installation and performance.\n\nThe exhibition foll
ows Haraway’s propositions such as “Making Kin”\, “Composting” a
nd “Sowing Worlds”\, inviting visitors to rethink their connections wi
th humans\, animals\, and ecosystems. Other propositions include “Critte
 rs”\, emphasising the agency of non-human life\, while “Techno-Apocaly
pse” critiques dystopian views on technology\, proposing a more nuanced\
, interconnected future.\nCommenting on the exhibition Mary Cremin\, Head
of Programming\, IMMA\, said\; “Staying with the Trouble is a call to re
think\, reshape our views — to stay present in complexity\, to unlearn h
uman-centric ways of seeing\, and to lean into the radical potential of ki
nship across species\, materials\, and worlds. This exhibition is both a p
rovocation and an invitation — to reimagine our place in a shared\, enta
ngled future.”\nThere will be a screening programme of film and moving i
mage works as part of Living Canvas at IMMA\, running throughout May to Se
ptember.\n\nThe exhibition will be accompanied by a live performance serie
s on Saturday 26 July 2025.\n\nArtists featured in the exhibition include
