“Stitched Together” – An exhibition of quilts
“We are five women who met and forged our friendship through a love of sewing and in particular of patchwork and quilting. Without this interest we may never have met – we would have missed out on 3 decades of creativity, friendship and fun.
For each of us, sewing has been an integral part of our lives and who we are. It has brought us purpose and positivity, made us think and look at things in different ways, presented us with problems and opportunities and brought us solace in difficult times.
These are all qualities a hobby can bring and we were lucky enough to have been taught the basics of sewing at primary school. While it may not have exactly ‘lit a burning fire’ in us then, it did give us a vital and useful skill to fall back upon and allowed us to develop that skill into something which has brought us joy throughout our lives.
As you look around this exhibition you will see that we all have different styles, particular colours we favour, techniques we prefer – our differences reflect that we are not all the same, but we hope it shows that together we can achieve something quite beautiful.”
Exhibitors include Jacqueline Davie, Sally Law, Anne Marcus, Phyl Maxwell and Margaret Woodside.
This exhibition of 41 quilts will be on display from Thursday 23rd June until Friday 26th August 2022. Opening hours: Monday to Friday, 10.00am – 3.00pm (lunch time closing 12.15pm – 12.45pm).
