‘Stray Sod’ , the exhibition currently showing at Armagh County Museum, showcases work by artist in residence Orlaith Cullinane that takes a fresh look at one of Ireland’s strongest museum collections.
Since January, Orlaith, an Armagh native, has been given access to the County Museum’s vast collection. In response she has developed a fascinating, multi faceted exhibition of paintings, drawings, and assemblages of artefacts from the collection.
Inspiring selections include a prehistoric clay bowl, various shoes, the remains of a bog body, a birds nest and a magic lantern. The provenance and social history of the objects, and unavoidably, the artist’s own personal history, all played a part in creating the finished works.
The exhibition continues until Feb 22 2020 and there are a number of Artist’s talks, workshops and guided tours scheduled. Contact Armagh County Museum for more info.
