SUMMARY:Substance to Shadows | Kyrre Mogster at Tøn Gallery
DESCRIPTION:\n\nKyrre Mogster presents ‘Substance to Shadows’\, a body
of paintings depicting a kind of hedonism and human folly. Made with ink a
nd oil stick on canvas\, the series uses excess\, indulgence\, and collaps
e as an allegory for what results from dogmatic thinking — when ideas ha
rden and refuse to be questioned.\nThe inspiration for the work comes from
a series of books by American sociologist Alvin Gouldner that addresses t
he dangers of failing to confront and interrogate our\nideological biases.
For Mogster\, Gouldner’s warning becomes visual. The work asks what ha
ppens when we stop testing our beliefs against the world.
