SUMMARY:Talks | The Pre-Raphaelites &amp\; The Birth of Modernism with Dr M
atthew Whyte at Triskel Arts Centre
DESCRIPTION:Art Historian Dr Matthew Whyte offers a lecture series\, which
takes the audience on an art-filled journey through the often beautiful\,
sometimes scandalous\, and always fascinating moments in the development o
f Western civilisation.\n\nThe Pre-Raphaelites looked back to the art of t
he Middle Ages as an act of resistance\, drawing from nature and literatur
e to make evocative works. Meanwhile\, The Realists sought an innovative s
olution that would shed light on the social inequalities that defined mode
rn life by doing something never done before: depicting working class life
  as it really was.
