Signal Arts Centre
This year’s colourful exhibition presents a visual feast for the senses.
All the work is by Artists who are associated with St John of God Community Services Dublin South East, and Sunbeam House Services Bray Co Wicklow. These Artists make art purely for the joy of creating. The Artist’s subject matter is individual and of a personal interest. This has been the inspiration for this collaborative exhibition.
Most of the artists from the above services had previously been attending The Art and Friendship Club in the Schoolhouse for Art in Enniskerry. This project was initially set up by Artist Fiona O’ Farrell of Sunbeam House (who has since retired). Fiona invited Artist Eithne Griffin from Willowvale Day service to join her in this venture, which embodied an ethos of community inclusion. The Art and Friendship Club supported people with an intellectual disability to enjoy a broad range of skill based art activities. The work exhibited here reflects the goal of that project which was that the participants connect with their community, grow in independence and further develop their life and social skills.
These Artists are from The Willowvale Active Retirement Day Centre, The Jeda Beading group, The artisans and Artists from The Student Learning Centre Sunbeam House.
Both Services strive to have creative programmes in environments where people with different interests and abilities can develop their creativity.
