Major International Arts Exhibition to show in rural Donegal
The Drawing Box pop up A5 expo of unframed works will be hosted by Inishowen Artists’ Retreat and Studio in Carndonagh, Co. Donegal from 4th – 20th March 2022, launching on Friday 4th March 6pm to 7.30pm and open to the public 10am to 3pm, Monday to Friday or by appointment (087 1372139).
Fresh in from Argyl, Scotland and a successful show with Anoushka Havinden, this prestigious collection of works has had a major physical global tour during 2021-22 featuring over 322 drawings in all media by 90+ international and national artists from the collective made before and during the pandemic.
The exhibition will be opened by Founding member Diane Henshaw.
This exhibition has been shown: The show will then travel to Lithuania, New Mexico, Australia, Belgium and Netherlands. The Drawing Box is an international platform for the arts.
Background:
During lockdown the Arts Council of Northern Ireland awarded Diane Henshaw some emergency C19 arts funding to administrate a video archive of studio visits with members of the group, curate touring shows to both Mumbai in 2021 and this major tour of international arts.
This programming during 2020/21 has helped to give artists hope and some unique and unusual opportunities to be profiled internationally through the networks created as well as through programming being developed – e.g. meet the artist online studio visits and exhibitions. This exhibition is a specifically curated event from Sinéad Smyth (Inishowen Artists’ Retreat and Studio, Carndonagh) featuring small scaled A5 drawings x 5 by each artist made during the pandemic. There are many negative impacts the pandemic visited upon the world, the art world. The generosity of spirit and the courage to reach across differences, the initiative of each of our host artists and the host venues in some way, define our ways out of the paralysis the Covid 19 pandemic have visited upon us.
