Founded in 1879, the Royal Ulster Academy is the largest and longest established body of practicing visual artists in Northern Ireland. One of the founding principles of the Academy was to hold an annual exhibition of work by both members and non–members of merit. Now in its 138th year, this event remains one of the highlights of the Northern Ireland arts calendar attracting over 96,000 visitors in 2018.
This year’s Annual Exhibition will be held at the Ulster Museum, Belfast from 18th October 2019 to 5th January 2020 and will once again be sponsored generously by KPMG, the leading Accounting and Professional Advisory Firm. The exhibition will showcase original works across the disciplines of the visual arts by emerging and established artists.

This year, the RUA is honoured to have Sean Rainbird, Director of the National Museum of Ireland as Adjudicator.

Over £7,000 in prize money will be awarded to exhibiting artists of merit.

The 138th Annual Exhibition has a dedicated Programme of Events, Education Programme Talks Tours and Masterclasses facilitated by RUA Council Members and Distinguished Exhibiting Artists.
