2019 marks the 400th anniversary of the completion of Derry’s Walls, considered among the finest in Europe. Built between 1613 and 1619 they were the last to encircle an Irish city.
To mark the 400th anniversary The Tower Museum has curated this exhibition using a treasure trove of objects and archive materials from its collections to tell the story of the Walls, the city and its people. The exhibition charts the story of the Walls, from military asset to symbolic battleground, from site of conflict to reimagined space for cultural events.
The objects and collections you will encounter tell us about life and events within and around the walls over the last 400 years.
