“UATHÚLACHT” An Exhibition by 5th and 6th Year Art Students of Seamount College. KAVA Courthouse Gallery, Kinvara, Co. Galway.
March 24th – 31st 2022
The proximity of the KAVA Courthouse Gallery has provided us students with the significant benefit of visiting several exhibitions throughout the school year, something essential to our art appreciation course and to our own personal development as artists. It is a unique opportunity to now be presented with the chance to exhibit our work alongside one another in a space where we have previously observed artworks of established artists.
From a students point of view, the experience gained by showing in this exhibition has given us a great insight into aspects needed to run a successful show. We have learned the value of organisational skills, of consideration needed regarding display and production, and of course, being able to curate our works is an invaluable tool to have. In preparing for the exhibition we have had to consider what message we are presenting to the viewer -something that many of us have never had the chance to do especially over the last two years and additionally because we are just setting out on our artistic explorations!
The exhibition will feature a wide range of artwork from painting, printmaking and sculpture produced by the 5th and 6th-year art classes. Students have full control over their individual pieces as well as the responsibility to collaborate in the exhibition’s organisation, layout and invigilation. It is a completely new experience for us and a very interactive way to engage with the senior cycle art syllabus.
We are privileged to be able to push out of our creative comfort zone and explore a different artistic setting. We present to the visitor a varied collection full of very different ideals and hopes, hence the title “Uathúlacht” meaning “Uniqueness” A wide range of media and methods are used to create a youthful expression of a visual story full of individual meanings and gathered into one space.
