SLEEPERTOWN lurks just outside of the ‘city’ and encourages people to explore their local surroundings with a heightened sense of wonder, connectivity and excitement.
It is a groundbreaking, mobile public art programme featuring outstanding work from a diverse group of distinguished international practitioners. As it moves, it commissions new work by artists living within each of the communities it visits.
Artists Include: Michael Petry (UK) & John Powell (Oscar Nominated Screen Composer UK/US), Richard Carr (IRL), Gabi Schaffner (DE), Carmen Torrano Mellado (ESP), Younes Baba-Ali (MA/BE), Joseph Young (UK) Aosie O’Dwyer (IRL) & Camilo Gaete Puga (CL).
The current programme features seven sonic experiences at the following locations in Tullamore, Co. Offaly: St Joseph’s Cemetery, Turas Nua, Tullamore Train Station, Market Square, the War Memorial, Lloyd Town Park and Charleville Forest.
Utilising mobile technologies (Geo-Fencing/Audio AR), SLEEPERTOWN creates a parallel listening world, accessed digitally within the public realm. This world coexists with our ‘real-world’ geographical landscape and encourages people to move through their own communities to trigger and immerse themselves, in new public artworks via their personal mobile devices.
