YAN is not a verb or a noun. It is a state of mind. If one is gifted enough to achieve the state of yan, the carrier of this mind state experiences feelings of both happiness and confusion, simultaneously seeing things with greater clarity and increased ambiguity. The glass is half-empty or half-full, and twice as big as it needs to be.
Yanagisawa Gallery is based in Urawa, Saitama Prefecture in Japan and showcases the work of influential Japanese and international artists. Through the gallery’s long-standing relationship with Irish artist Richard Gorman and recent showing of Taylor Galleries artist David Quinn, gallery director Toshiaki Yanagisawa presents works by selected artists associated with his stable together for the first time in Dublin.
To coincide with YAN at Taylor Galleries, SO Fine Art Editions in Powerscourt Townhouse, Dublin will also showcase work by artists from Yanagisawa Gallery in an exhibition of the same name opening on Saturday 1 February 2020 from 2 to 4.30pm. This exhibition features work by Richard Gorman, Yoko Hara, Azusa Takahashi, Jin Hirosawa, Mayumi Kimura and Yasuyoshi Tokida. Please visit SO Fine Art Editions’ website for more details.
