Fiona Mulholland, Laura Angell and Paul Bokslag | Ask the Artist Talk at Luan Gallery, Athlone

Wednesday 29 May, 6pm.

Luan Gallery will host an ‘Ask the Artist Talk’ with multi-disciplinary artists Fiona Mulholland, Laura Angell and Paul Bokslag. The artists will discuss their work, the dynamics, concepts and use of materials featured in Other Dimensions their observations and response to the pressures of modern society and mental health in a conversation facilitated by Critical Writer, Joanne Laws. Joanne Laws is a Features Editor of the Visual Artists News Sheet and manages the VAI artists publication archive. She is an arts writer whom regularly contributes to a range of Irish and international publications including Art Monthly and Frieze.

The installations featured in Other Dimensions promise to lead to an intriguing conversation as the work of the artists act as a contemporary snapshot of today’s society. The textile artist, the graphic designer and the multi-disciplinary artist use their practice to confront issues of stress, anxiety and mental health. Using wool, mixed media, paper cutting, mass produced materials, fluorescent lights and reflective surfaces the artists demonstrate the therapeutic benefits found in the process of making and observing art. Other Dimensions introduces its audience to the freedom of art, how artists can expand from their practice and create work that is ‘outside the norm’. Ask the Artist takes place on Wednesday 29th May at 6pm. Pre-booking is advised to avoid disappointment as places are limited.
