VAI Workshop | How to Photograph Your Art with Tim Durham – Wexford (9 Oct)

In this workshop you will learn how to make high quality photos of your art work. These photos will help you create a strong first impression in others of your work and your professionalism. As part of your practice you need photos of your work when making exhibition and grant applications. You also need them for websites, email, social media, giving talks with visuals and for publication in catalogues and the media. This workshop will help you make accurate representation of your work.

Too often artists submit images that appear like they were shot in dimly lit and sloppy environments. If the photo is too small, or out of focus, or if there are problems with color, lighting or shadows, then you are not showing a true representation of your work. Your piece will appear poorly constructed, the colors will be misrepresented – you may as well be showing a picture of somebody else’s artwork.

This workshop will assist you in a methodical step-by-step process to obtain the best possible results with your digital compact camera or digital SLR.

The course will cover framing, exposure, ISO, white balance, apertures, depth of field, jpg and raw quality, resolution of images, tripod use and much more.

To take part you will need:

A piece of art work to photograph
Your camera, fully charged battery, battery charger and blank memory card
A camera manual. These can be sourced online if you don’t have the original.
Tripod if you have one

Wednesday 9 October, 10.00am to 5.00pm.
