Introduction to Embroidery and Embroidered Upcycling at Block T, Dublin
Week 1 – Introduction to the materials and brief overview of different hand sewing styles, with examples of work to view. We will begin working a ‘sampler’ to introduce lots of different stitches. Specially designed for this class, the Pizza sampler will give you a chance to work on straight stitches, curves and a bonanza of useful stitches for the toppings.
Week 2 – Participants can continue on their pizza sampler or select a pre-drawn pattern to try their newly learned stitches on / Learn how to finish an embroidery hoop for display.
Week 3 – Continue on your chosen pattern / Introduction to pattern transfer technique / Look at examples of upcycling with embroidery/ how to select a suitable garments and get talking about what they might bring in next week.
Week 4 – Planning, designing and transferring your own motif to your chosen garment for upcycling / Begin stitching on clothing/accessory / Participants can also continue to work on regular embroidery if they don’t want to upcycle clothing.
Week 5 – Continue and finish stitching garment/accessory – Go off and stitch up a storm.
About your tutor:
Edana is a Dublin based crafter and artist from Louth who has been creating and selling her designs for over 10 years. She began embroidering as a hobby before getting her QQI qualification in 2015. Edana is out to spread a ‘can do’ attitude to those who are interested in craft, but don’t know where to begin. The course she has designed will allow beginners to start embroidery.
