“Tronies” are portrait heads that don’t necessarily depict a particular individual, but rather a type, for instance figures from mythology. These were common during the Dutch Golden Age and have been a way for artists to practice different techniques and facial expressions without the pressure of capturing a likeness or pleasing the sitter of a portrait.
The emphasis in this class will be on basic anatomy and the drawing fundamentals necessary for drawing a convincing human head from various angles and with different expressions. You are encouraged to use your imagination to make each tronie your own and to have fun. Basic materials provided, sketchpad recommended. With tutor Mark Heng.
This course is highly recommended for those interested in the advanced portrait course which will be offered in Spring 2017
