Introduction to Screen Printing with Reactive Dyes and Discharge, Dublin 8

During this experimental workshop, students will have the opportunity to screen print with thickened reactive dyes and discharge onto both pre-dyed and plain cellulose fabric such as cotton and linen. Unlike pigment, which sits on top of fabric, reactive dyes attach to the fibre itself leaving no residue behind. This makes them suitable for use with lightweight fashion fabrics as well as heavier fabrics.

Discharge printing bleaches out a lighter image on a darker coloured ground. This enables printing onto dark lightweight fabrics as well as onto areas already printed with reactive dyes. The resulting prints are often unexpected and unusual.

You will leave this workshop with an array of fabric samples. No screen printing experience is required. Materials provided.

Dates: Saturday September 8th
Times: 10 am – 4 pm
Fee: €95 (all materials included)
Location: Print Block, 107 Cork Street, Dublin 8
