The Board of the Douglas Hyde Gallery, Trinity College, Dublin, invites applications from suitable candidates for the position of Director, which will become vacant at the end of 2016. The Douglas Hyde Gallery, established in 1978, is an independent organisation situated in Trinity College, Dublin. Its main funders are Trinity College and the The Arts Council of Ireland / An Chomhairle Ealaíon. The Gallery plays a significant role in Irish cultural life, and the quality of the exhibition programme is recognised in the international art world.
The Douglas Hyde Gallery is entering a new era and it is essential that a new Director will bring their own distinctive ideas, leadership and strong curatorial voice to the post. The Director will be expected to develop a vision for the role of the institution in both the local and international arts world and deliver an artistic programme that furthers the Gallery’s significant international reputation in the visual arts.
The successful candidate will have relevant qualifications in visual arts and considerable curatorial experience in a comparable gallery or museum. S/he will have knowledge of current debates in international curatorial practice. The successful candidate will have the leadership, the drive, and the strategic management capabilities to build on the Gallery’s success to date. S/he will be expected to expand the Gallery programme and and to develop a strong public engagement practice. Expertise in financial management and the ability to engage in fund-raising activities with both public and private funding sources will be essential. S/he will have excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to develop effective partnerships nationally and internationally.
Status: 5 Year Full Time Fixed Term Contract
Location: Douglas Hyde Gallery, Trinity College, The University of Dublin
Salary: €60,000 per annum. Details of the relevant Pension Scheme will be provided to the successful applicant.
