Valand Academy and L’Internationale confederation of European museums wish to appoint a Managing Editor for L’Internationale online platform. The Managing Editor coordinates, both practically and strategically, a lively platform for disseminating research and opinions on art, culture and society. The position is linked to the four year programme “Our Many Europes” (EACEA 32/2017), and appointed as an Adjunct at Valand Academy for the duration.
Appointment starts: December 2018 / January 2019
Location: Valand Academy, Gothenburg, Sweden
Duration: Fixed term 4 years
Salary: 30,000–40,000 SEK monthly, based on prior qualification.
L’Internationale proposes a space for art within a non-hierarchical and decentralized internationalism, based on the value of difference and horizontal exchange among a constellation of cultural agents, locally rooted and globally connected. L’Internationale comprises seven major European museums, Modena Galerija (MG+msum, Ljubljana, Slovenia); Museo Reina Sofía (MNCARS, Madrid, Spain); Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona (MACBA, Barcelona, Spain); Museum van Hedendaagse Kunst Antwerpen (M HKA, Antwerp, Belgium); SALT (Istanbul and Ankara, Turkey), Musem of Modern Art in Warsaw (MSN, Warsaw, Poland) and Van Abbemuseum (VAM, Eindhoven, Netherlands). For the “Our Many Europes” project, L’Internationale is working together with lead academic partner Valand Academy, University of Gothenburg (Sweden) and the National College of Art and Design (Ireland). L’Internationale board of directors and editorial board are both formed by representatives of all institutions in the consortium.
The Managing Editor, through liaison with the partner institutions, will: supervise the practical running of the platform; generate the editorial plan for the next four years; develop a structure and schedule for each issue; be responsible for managing the budget of the platform; coordinate between all the partners, with respect to shared tasks and decisions required for successful operation of the platform. This work programme will be established and implemented in agreement across the partnership through both the board of directors, and the editorial board. L’Internationale online will broaden its audience and integrate two new sections (i) L’internationale archive and educational tools; and (ii) the website of “Glossary of Common Knowledge.”
The Managing Editor will also teach part time (20%)—through English—at the Valand Academy, University of Gothenburg. The teaching content will be based on the skills and content of the work programme of L’Internationale. A key task will be to bridge the knowledge base of L’Internationale with the curriculum.
