Deadline for submission: 10 August, midnight.
Weatherproof Me! is a challenge to design an interface between the body and Galway’s weather.
They are looking for original designs, which will be showcased during Galway’s year as European Capital of Culture 2020. The designs will be part of the Hope it Rains | Soineann nó Doineann programme, a flagship project of Galway 2020. Turning our bad weather to good use, we aim to make Galway the place to be because it rains and blows! The project aims to effect a cultural change in our relationship with weather, and make Galway’s people and places more weather and climate resilient.
For Weatherproof Me!, they are looking for designs that interface between the body and Galway’s weather – designs that are transported on/connected to the body – that re-imagine the relationship between the body and weather in Galway, and the interaction between the body and the weather – that change our behaviour in the wind, the rain and the dark – that challenge our attitudes and actions towards climate change and water management – that transform the everyday weather into performance.
They welcome designs that are imaginative, innovative, provocative, playful, or theatrical.
5 winners will each receive:
– €1500 commission to produce and deliver their design
– Multiple showcases of the fabricated design as part of the Galway 2020, European Capital of Culture programme, Hope it Rains | Soineann nó Doineann
Competition entry is free and strictly by online application only at hopeitrains.ie
The competition is open to citizens and permanent residents of the EU/ EU candidate countries/Palestine/Norway.
