8 and 9 April 2017, 10am to 5pm | Cost: €125
Coastguard Cultural Centre, Tramore, Co. Waterford
This 2-day intensive workshop introduces you to drawing the classical portrait.
Even in our modern world, overflowing with photographic portrait images and ‘selfies’, the intimacy and aesthetic merits achieved by a simple portrait drawing still seduce us. This workshop covers all of the technical and aesthetic aspects of portrait drawing in several media (graphite, charcoal, and Conté), from the structure and anatomy of facial features to achieving likeness and creating expression to a historical overview of the portrait as it developed from the Renaissance.
You will be shown all aspects of portrait drawing, starting with the technical attributes of drawing the face and head, and then beginning to explore the more expressive qualities of this human subject. On the second day of the workshop, you will have the opportunity to put your learning into practise by drawing a model from life.
