Applications are invited for the Shinnors Scholarship 2019 in Engagement and Learning; a joint initiative of Limerick City Gallery of Art (LCGA), and Limerick School of Art & Design (LSAD), LIT.
LCGA and LIT seek to appoint a Shinnors Scholar for a two-year period. This position sees the development of the innovative partnership of the Shinnors Scholarship, developed over the last ten years. This two-year MA by Research will focus on developing LCGA’s Learning and Schools programme which will offer the successful candidate the opportunity to research and implement an innovative programme with a focus on primary school children (5-12 years).
This position will suit a candidate interested in research, developing and maintaining relationships between LCGA and primary schools in Limerick city. It will also require an openness to identifying and implementing new approaching to introducing young people to the visual arts, both in the format (schools sector) and informal sector (Gallery programme). The aim of this research post is to introduce young children, their teachers and families to contemporary visual art and other art forms where appropriate and relevant.
This post aims to foster an increased awareness and understanding of the visual arts within society by creating innovative and inclusive opportunities for people to engage with LCGA’s exhibitions and programmes, both as audience members and participants. It also seeks to create opportunities for meaningful exchanges between artists and the public. The Engagement and Learning programme is informed by models of practice, which are designed to meet the needs of specific groups and to address targeted education needs. These models are documented and evaluated and their outcomes inform a broader programme, which can provide access for a wide range of people.
The successful applicant will receive a Scholarship to undertake an MA by Research at LSAD over a two-year period and based, primarily, at the LCGA. The funding for the project is provided by a scholarship donated for this purpose by LCGA.
Scholarship Conditions: Course fees for EU applicants is paid with €12,000 stipend and €1,000 for materials and/or conference attendance per annum. Note: Non-EU candidates will be responsible for approx. €7,000 contribution as only EU equivalent fees are paid in full.
