Galway has been chosen as European Capital of Culture 2020. Having come through the competition process successfully, the partners in the bid are in a transitional phase of establishing a Company to lead and deliver Capital of Culture 2020.
The Creative Director is responsible for implementing those elements of the programme which were decided prior to this appointment as contained in the final Bid Book. The Creative Director will embrace the ethos of the Bid Book and will attempt to ensure that new programming is complementary to the pre-ordained programme.
The Creative Director will pay due attention to the comments of the ECOC Jury report, especially in the context of qualifying Galway 2020 for the Melina Mercouri Prize. The Creative Director will have creative discretion in the making of decisions for Galway 2020 but subject always to the constraints of budget and personnel as ultimately dictated by The Chief Executive Officer, who, in the event of any dispute arising, will have ultimate decision making power. The importance of the European dimension of programming decisions is an essential parameter of the Creative Director’s programme. It is expected that the Creative Director will form a productive and mutually supportive relationship with the CEO, based upon excellent and regular communication.
