The Curatorial Department at Tate Britain develops and delivers collection displays and loan exhibitions, researches and builds Tate’s collection of British art, and promotes the study of British art. At Tate, British art means art made in Britain, which is often considered in an international or transnational context.
Tate Gallery is seeking a creative and dynamic Director of Collection, British Art to develop and lead the next chapter of an ambitious programme of work relating to British art acquisitions. The role works closely with the Director, Tate Britain taking overall responsibility for building Tate’s collection of British art, through acquisitions, gifts and bequests.
As a member of Tate Britain’s senior management team, you will lead, plan and supervise the implementation of the Acquisitions Strategy relating to British art, advise the Board on potential acquisitions, and mentor and develop curators in their acquisitions work. You will also play a lead role in building and maintaining external relationships with a view to enhancing the British art collection.
To be successful in the role you will bring a wealth of knowledge in contemporary global practices, knowledge of collecting art within an international museum context, and specialist expertise in a specific area of British art.

Working hours:36 hours per week
Salary:£70,000 – £75,000 per annum depending on the skills and experience of the successful applicant.
