The deadline for receipt of expressions of interest: Friday 2 June
Proposals are invited from practising artists in the area of contemporary drawing for the period 1 September 2017 – 30 June 2018. The residency is located within the context of the College’s focus on initial teacher education (primary teaching) and is made possible by the Arts Council, in partnership with Mary Immaculate College (MIC) and the Lime Tree Theatre. The residency will be hosted by MIC’s Department of Arts Education and Physical Education. We welcome applications from individual visual artists within the expanded field of drawing. Artists who use drawing in the context of a wide range of media for example film, animation, performance, sculpture and in a traditional manner are welcome to apply along with demonstrated interest in creating work with or for children; and with an interest in developing their practice in an education setting.
The residency will offer the visual artist opportunities to generate work, share work/work in progress and avail of studio and research facilities. This opportunity is one of a number of artist residencies supported by the Arts Council/An Chomhairle Ealaíon in the context of Initial Teacher Education.
Expressions of interest from potential holders of the residency should include:
• An artist CV outlining experience and achievements to date
• Examples of artistic work (i.e. images, recordings, written work, web links)
• A residency proposal outlining: proposed activities and engagements (for one
academic year) which you consider will support the aims of the residency; details of how you intend to develop your practice over the course of the residency; a statement of potential links and synergies within Initial Teacher Education in MIC and the programme at Lime Tree Theatre.
Following receipt of applications, a shortlist will be compiled for further assessment. The tender will be awarded following an assessment process. Assessments will be scheduled at Mary Immaculate College for week commencing June 26th. The assessment panel will include representatives and/or nominees from the college community and the Arts Council.
The appointment of the Artist in Residence is for one year. The successful applicant will be paid a fee of €15,000 for the year. Applicants may express an interest in continuing the residency for up to a maximum of three academic years. The successful artist will be offered a contract for service with Mary Immaculate College. A full schedule of events and activities will be agreed between the successful artist and the College.
Applications will be assessed according to the following criteria:
• Demonstrated track record and experience of the artist in the proposed art form
• Demonstrated potential of the artist to develop their practice over the course of the
residency, including their work for/with children of school-going age (20%)
• Demonstrated capacity of the artist to engage with the college community in a
manner that supports the aims of the residency (50%)
