Josepha Madigan Appointed Minister for Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht

Josepha Madigan, Fine Gael TD for Dublin Rathdown, has been named the new Minister for Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht by Taoiseach Leo Varadkar in a cabinet reshuffle.

Josepha Madigan is a first-time TD, elected at the 2016 General Election. A family law solicitor by trade, she is also an author, having self-published a novel, Negligent Behaviour, set amidst the Dublin legal world, in 2011.

Madigan replaces Heather Humphreys, who in turn will replace Frances Fitzgerald as Minister of Business, Enterprise and Innovation.

Heather Humphreys held the Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht portfolio since June. She previously served as Minister for Arts, Heritage, and the Gaeltacht Affairs from July 2014 to May 2016; and Minister for Arts, Heritage, Regional, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs from May 2016 to June 2017.

Earlier this month, The Taoiseach restated his commitment to double total funding for the arts in Ireland over a period of seven years.
