Julia Dubsky | Basic Talks at The Hugh Lane

Friday, 18 May, 1 – 2 pm

Julia Duksy is an artist who works with paint, based in Dublin, currently investigating figuration and narrative.

She will discuss paintings made over the last year, while resident in Temple Bar Gallery and Studios, as the recent graduate awardee. Julia’s upcoming show — Salon of Good Time, in TBG+S, 23-30.05 — is especially influenced by Marge Piercy’s novel ‘He, She and It’ and the artist’s desire for greater possibility beyond current impasses.

The artist intends to address a variety of subjects including: departing from pathos, jealousy and scarcity, preparations/rehearsals, the grid, narrative through style and titles, paint applications signifying readymades, graffiti, spokes, double negative (representation), smuggling, intrinsic value?, hard edge, Persian calligraphy paintings, penumbra, viridian, red and blue, perception studies … with reference possibly to Donna Haraway, Franco Bifo Birardi, Isabelle Graw, Bini Adamczak, Djuna Barnes and Clarice Lispector.

Basic Talks ~ Trans Live Art Salon is part of a multi-site programme of exhibitions, residencies and public programmes looking at institutional attitudes, community spaces and education.
