Saturday 4 March
Susan MacWilliam’s 2016 film ‘Pull Down’ will be presented at Alchemy Film and Moving Image Festival. ‘Pull Down’ will be presented in ‘Self Registration’ which presents seven films that differently explore how we occupy space, be it through the formation of groups, or individual expression, mapping the journeys of others or creating something familiar from an uncertain space.
Conjuring up the dark spaces of the séance room, Susan MacWilliam’s ‘Pull Down’ (2016, B+W, 3 mins 10 secs) intimately observes the collapsing and slumping of a girl through the focusing lens of a camera. Continuing MacWilliam’s explorations of the phenomena of spiritualism, ‘Pull Down’ draws attention to the role of the camera as observer of the medium within historic psychical research studies.
Alchemy Film and Moving Image Festival is an international festival of experimental film and artists’ moving image. Alchemy Film and Arts was founded in 2010 and has produced six editions of the Alchemy Film and Moving Image Festival. The festival is produced in partnership with Heart of Hawick in the Scottish Borders.
