Deadline: 7 May 2017
This two year, Level 9, taught masters degree focuses on the dynamic relationship between socially engaged arts practice and pedagogy, particularly within further education, non-formal educational and community settings. Immersed in a trans-disciplinary space, students will develop their practices as socially engaged practitioners as well as educators within the Further Education sector.
Sites and spaces for engagement and learning are constantly evolving in response to multiple global, political and technological changes. Artists and educators inform and drive change through creative, reflective, and interventionist practices. Recognising the range of methodologies used in socially engaged practice that draw on educational concepts and forms and the important position of the FE sector in offering learning opportunities to diverse students locally, nationally and internationally, the MA SEA+FE is a site for experimental learning, skills acquisition and critical debate in this transdisciplinary field.
The MA SEA+FE will attract students from a range of disciplines. Applicants should have a Level 8 (BA Hons) degree in art or design or in another discipline with a demonstrable commitment to the arts in social and educational contexts. The course is full time but the programme is delivered two evenings a week with two off site day time practicums and occasional full-day workshops.
The MA SEA+FE has a strong staff team combining established practitioners from the field of socially engaged/collaborative arts and education. The course is coordinated by Fiona Whelan (Artist) and Nuala Hunt (Head of Continuing Education, NCAD) with a core staff team including artist Chris Maguire and adult educator Anne Gallagher as well as part time and visiting staff.
