NCAD Student March to the Department of Education

newsThe latest action of protesting students at The National College of Design takes place this Thursday 28th May. NCAD students, staff and supporters will march to the Department of Education to demand a resolution in relation to a range of funding, resource and management issues impacting on the college; and to ask Minister for Education Jan O’Sullivan to respond to the situation at NCAD.

In late 2014 the Office of the Comptroller and Auditor General (C&AG), published a report noting delays by NCAD in preparing its annual accounts and for failing to comply with procurement guidelines.

Student protests at the college have centred on a range of key demands around student numbers, reducing fees, studio facilities and exhibition space. NCAD Student Action, the group organising the protests, have received a letter of support from international academics. Among the 79 signatories is Slavoj Žižek.

Staff support for the protests has been expressed in a motion of no confidence in the college management, passed at a emergency general meeting of SIPTU members. NCAD Student Union also organised a vote of no confidence in the college management.
