New Space for Void, Derry

logoThe Derry-based contemporary art space, Void, has received a substantial uplift from the Arts Council and Derry City and Strabane District Council towards new premises on the first floor of The City Factory Building. The space, which will be one of the most impressive visual arts spaces in Northern Ireland, had been maintained by the former Derry City Council for Legacy programming. In recent months Void has entered into a new period of growth and development with a new Board of Directors formed.

Newly appointed Chair of Void, Eamonn Mc Cann states
“For ten years, Void has operated from underground premises tucked discreetly away on Patrick Street near the city centre in what once was the basement store of a shirt factory, presenting cutting-edge exhibitions and performances from all arts and parts, keeping Derry and the world abreast of one another. Void has now found new space where art and imagination can blossom and billow, transcending division, and abrasion at the interfaces of our society, spark new ideas, understandings and syntheses.”

Speaking about Void, Deirdre Robb, Visual Arts Officer, Arts Council of Northern Ireland, commented
“The Arts Council is delighted to see Void move wholly into the City Factory following an uplift in their annual funding.  The Arts Council is committed to bringing high calibre visual arts to Northern Ireland and this impressive space will offer Void greater opportunities to collaborate with international galleries and to bring high quality work to Northern Ireland audiences.  We also extend a warm welcome to new Chair of Void, Eamonn McCann and wish him every success in this role.”
