Rethinking presentation – adapting to a new landscape (NI)

Not in modern memory has a time like 2020/21 restricted artists’ right for movement and physical connection. We ask, what examples currently rethink the conventional four walls approach to presenting work? Valeria Ceregini, Jas Singh and Ciara Finnegan discuss.

This event explores some of the new and different ways that artists and curators have presented work outside of traditional institutions as a result of the COVID-19 restrictions. Featuring; Ciara Finnegan, Valeria Ceregini & Jas Singh


Ciara Finnegan. Born in Co. Down, Northern Ireland, in 1974. Studied BA Hons Fine Art, University of Ulster, Belfast and MSc Interactive Media at the University of Limerick. Video works in LUX catalogue collection, Limerick City Gallery of Art Permanent Collection, Northern Ireland Arts Council Digital Media Collection. Awards include: Arts Council of Ireland Individual Artist Bursary (2006), Arts Council New Commissions (2005), Travel Bursary (2005) and the Arts Council of Northern Ireland’s PS1/Moma, International Studio Artists Residency award (1998-1999). Lives and works in the Netherlands.

Valeria Ceregini is an Italian art historian and visual arts curator based between Dublin (IE) and Turin (IT). She has over 7 years of curatorial experience and has collaborated with numerous international artists, curators and writers through exhibitions, exchanges, residencies, publications, talks and workshops. She is a regular contributor to Juliet Art Magazine and she collaborates with several art magazines.

Jas Singh graduated from Central St Martins in 2012 with a BA Fine Art specialising in 4D. His work addresses sociopolitical current affairs. His primary medium is dissonant audio interplaying with architecture, installations, sculpture, video as well as interactive live performative art – collaborating with the audience. Singh’s work mainly dictates these combinations.

Life changes in 2014/17 resulted in neurological complications forcing Jas to take a hiatus in making. In late 2017 he returned to making and reconfigured his method of practice from audio dissonance to considering visual overload with the same intent.
