ONLINE: Visual Artists Café, Tuesday 2 June

At our weekly Visual Artists Café on Tuesday the 2nd of June, 3pm our special guests will be artists Ursula Burke and Helen Gaynor. Another guest will also be joining us, TBC!

Ursula Burke is an Irish artist who works within the discipline of Sculpture. She uses a variety of media including porcelain sculpture, embroidery sculpture and drawing. Her work explores abuses of power in many realms of the social and political in the West. Often, taking a Northern Irish context as a critical point of departure from which to generalise her approach outwards to international concerns. Formally, her work appropriates tropes deeply invested in the Classical, and re-inserts them in the contemporary, aiming to create a conceptual bridge between the Classical ‘ideal’ (in form/society) and the ‘reality’ of contemporary post-conflict Northern Irish society.

Helen Gaynor is a Wexford based artist whose creative practice includes painting; mixed media; writing; poetry; music performance, and improvisation. Helen has a Batchelor of Education; has studied music and ensemble at the RIAM, Dublin; Fine Art, painting at NCAD, Dublin; MA in Creative Writing at UCD; and Digital Media Design(H Dip) at Carlow IT (Wexford Campus). Her paintings are in the AXA, OPW, EPA, Wexford Co Council, Boyle Arts Civic, and many other private and public collections.

We hope you can join us from your home or studio. It’s not just a chance for you to find out what’s happening in the art world, it’s also a fantastic opportunity to connect with artists and chat over a cup of tea.

Anyone who has attended one of our Visual Artist Cafés around the country over the last year or so will know that the events are informal and all centred around creating a space to share information. Our online Café will be no different – we will update you on news from VAI and the sector, invite artists to share their work with you and have guest speakers presenting on opportunities that are available to you.

Free for VAI Members / €5 non members

WEBINARS and ONLINE EVENTS: We use Zoom to host our online events.
