This opportunity is a Beam project funded by the Culture Cures Creative Partners grant programme delivered by Beam in association with Wakefield Council and selected creative partners. This artist commission is to develop and deliver a series of creative interventions in the Wakefield district to raise awareness of mental health and wellbeing that appeals (but is not exclusive to) 17-25 year olds

The aim of the project is to create a dialogue or starting point for residents of Wakefield district to engage with and discuss key themes around mental health to reduce stigma, stimulate discussion and raise awareness of support available.

Role Description
The Artist will curate and deliver a series of 4 ‘pop-up’ interventions in the Wakefield district markets and shopping areas to engage with the target groups within high footfall areas. Working with Beam and appropriate partners, the artist will need to work independently at a variety of locations across the district. Support will be given to secure space at the chosen locations.

The Artist can work in a variety of disciplines with the emphasis on a creative approach with the most impact, visibility and depth of engagement with the target group. The Artist will need to produce a legacy item for example: publication, film or photography to capture the story of the inventions at each location.

The artist may choose to work with or disseminate information through a number of contacts at Wakefield Council active lifestyles team, the Mental Health Museum, youth services, markets and events teams as appropriate.

Fee
A fee of £3,600 + VAT if applicable inclusive of all expenses.
The fee assumes a minimum of 15 days work over the period, and should include materials and costs associated with the legacy element of the brief. Please note that a DBS check will be undertaken for the successful applicant.
