Due to technical hiccups in the membership system, the 126 Artist-Run Gallery are extending the Hiatus submissions deadline until 8 May, 5pm.
For the 2019 Annual Members Exhibition, the 126 Artist-Run Gallery is looking for works, of any medium by artists within our membership, that speak to a feeling of apprehension or suspense characteristic of the current political climate.
With the prolonging of Brexit talks into late October, questions linger in regards to diplomatic, cultural and economic relationships between the United Kingdom and the rest of Europe. The Brexit campaign played on a sense of political urgency and polarisation in part initiated by the refugee crisis. Within this larger political context, there is an urgent need for new ways of belonging that remain meaningful across cultures. Each generation builds, transfigures, and exchanges traditions and values. How does one reconcile these values within a climate of social metamorphosis?
The 126 invites members to submit works responding clearly yet uniquely to the “hiatus” theme – taking an imaginative approach to Ireland’s future during this period of political transition.
Applications are accepted from artists with active 126 membership. Membership can be purchased/renewed at 126gallery.com/ or contact us at the gallery.
To apply: please send a statement of intent (approx 200 words), artist CV (with contact details) and relevant images & dimensions of your work (up to 10 images) in one PDF to email@example.com. Selected work must be delivered to the gallery on or before the 8th of May. Hiatus previews on the 17th of May and will run until the 2nd of June 2019. Artists are expected to arrange collection/return of work thereafter.
