Open Call | RE-VISION Performing Arts Festival 2019, Belfast

Application deadline: 1 August.

The aim of RE-VISION is to create various platforms inside and outside of artistic environments for all performance artists identifying as feminist or holding feminist possibilities within their practices. This will include interrogating gender inequality in society, fighting for the empowerment of women and addressing issues relating to identity, gender, and sexuality. The personal is political, what does this mean to you and what can this look like through performance art?

The main theme within this two-day performing arts festival is contemporary gender politics and connecting issues and configurations of power. How can a more creative approach; such as performance art, drama and spoken word, create a space to explore emotions and engage in feminist discourse? This festival aims to move beyond gender mainstreaming and to inspire engagement and action.

RE-VISION is organized and curated by visual artist Chloe Austin. Commencing on the 6th of September at The American Bar in Belfast at 6 pm and all day on Saturday 7th throughout the city, inside and outside of artistic environments. Each artist is responsible for sourcing their own equipment if needed and is responsible for the transport of their own work to and from the festival.

Please note: there is no artist fee to participate. This is not a funded festival, however, there is a GoFundMe campaign enabling to cover costs of dinner and a drink for each artist involved on the Saturday 7th which you can find here:…. Photography and video documentation will be produced for each live performance, which the artist will receive for free.

People should send a proposal to with Title, duration (rough), what the performance would entail (materials, equipment, etc) and how this engages the themes within RE-VISION (identity, gender, sexuality). CV and previous works can be included if they feel relevant, but not a requirement.
