This unique painting week with Artist Michelle Boyle is an opportunity to develop individual painting skills in the beautiful historic seaside town of Olhão where the distinct Moorish cubist architecture brought many well known Portuguese Artists in the first half of the 20th century .
The accommodation is in a sensitively renovated original townhouse with internal courtyards, a rooftop balcony with sun loungers and private pool. This art holiday is aimed at painters of amateur and advanced abilities who wish to develop their practice through direct observational sketching and painting. Different painting locations each day including the harbour/ streetscape/ beach will provide opportunities to develop on techniques such as light and shade, shape, form and composition and capturing essence . Participants will discover how these images can later be explored in the well-equipped house studio. The atmosphere will be enjoyable and supportive and non painting partners are welcome at a reduced fee. Participants may opt for an additional half day course in traditional ceramic tile painting with Portuguese Ceramicist Cel Mendes in her working studio.
The town has some of the best island beaches in The Algarve which are accessed by a short boat ride. The temperature in April averages at a modest 20 degrees so paddling and swimming is definitely an option in the crystal clear waters.
Michelle Boyle has found Olhão to be an inspirational place to develop her own painting practice and that the clarity of the light and saturated colours bring new visual discoveries and ways of working for her.
