Following the success of last year’s Make a Photobook / Collaborative Workshop, the Read That Image team return to Dublin Art Book Fair with Collab/Booklab, a one-day collaborative artist book making workshop.

Participants will be given a brief introduction to each stage of the bookmaking process and will collectively build and create their own hand-crafted artist books. Participants will work in groups with a collective pool of material to explore the various possibilities of visual storytelling. In this workshop participants will become both artist and editor, using their work and the work of others to curate and create new narratives in the context of a collective artist book. The emphasis will be on editing, sequencing and the process of building relationships between available visual materials.

While there will be some limitations in place (tight timeframe, book size, binding) experimentation is highly encouraged. This one day workshop will be fast-paced and hands on, and follow a DIY approach to artist book making.

Submissions to include max 15 BLACK AND WHITE images @ 300 dpi, 2000px long side. Please send submissions to hello@readthatimage.org. Submission material can include images from a series of your own photographic work, illustration, drawing, painting or photographs of 3D artworks. Archival material and found photos also welcome. Feel free to submit workshop material in colour however please note these will be converted to black and white for the purpose of the workshop.
