Painting, for me, is a set of connections which link my experiences of landscape, soundscapes, the overlooked in everyday life, the glimpsed and other sensations. Through the processes of looking, drawing, collaging and painting one hopes to make an image that can stand by itself and also reflect something of others’ experiences.
As an artist, what are the key challenges that you face on a daily basis?
Time management of studio work, language teaching and workshop facilitation. While challenging these are also stimulating.
What inspires you most about the county in which you live?
VISUAL, Carlow and the people who work there. The physical landscape of the county is ever inspiring.
What is your top tip for fellow artists?
Work hard at your processes, explore them and how other artists use them.
Build your practice by reading and listening widely.
Keep a journal/notebook/sketchbook…when, for whatever reasons, your practice is curtailed your notebook becomes your workplace.
