For the past two years I have been working on a project for the Venice Biennale 2019. It consists of 4 short films, 3 drawing based multi media installations, each 280x240cm large and a performance piece.
As an artist, what are the key challenges that you face on a daily basis?
Time is always in short supply! My projects balloon out to be huge and take a lot of preparation. Yet there are life’s commitments and thus I am in a constant state of over work. Big projects cost big money, leaving little for things like proper heating or other ordinary things
What inspires you most about Kerry?
The light here and the freedom and my huge studio which I would never be able to have anywhere else!
What is your top tip for fellow artists?
Have a vision, a passion, a life purpose in your work, don’t settle for art world trends and dictates. Don’t become a ‘producer’ whose art is a ‘product’. Art is political, spiritual, revolutionary. Be authentic and find in you what you believe needs to be said in your medium. Work like a dog, having a clever idea is not enough. Challenge yourself way beyond what you think is your capacity. Be consistent, work consistently, it’s a life long quest. So much more than simply something you enjoy. Yet always be full of passionate joy
