Seminar | A Walk in the May Dew, National Library of Ireland

A Walk in the May Dew is a seminar exploring the customs, folklore and songs surrounding the Month of May in Ireland.

The seminar is organised by folklore.ie and builds upon the hugely successful ‘Vizzards and Collicks’ seminar in October 2016 which was based around Hallowe’en folklore and customs in Ireland.

For this event, Michael and some of our country’s leading practitioners and academics take us for a stroll across the May dew where they will examine the rich folklore associated with the month of May in Ireland including its cures, superstitions, customs and rituals.

Speakers will included Michael Fortune (folklore.ie), Clodagh Doyle (National Museum – Country Life), Nev Swift (The Fading Year), Jonny Dillion and Fionnán Mac Gabhann (The Folklore of Ireland Society), Robbie Sinnott (TCD), Paul Horan (School of Nursing, TCD), Maria Finucane (Limerick School of Art and Design) PLUS songs from traditional singers Padraigín Ní Uallacháin and Aileen Lambert.

Following the event in the National Library, An Goilín Singers’ Club will host a specially themed traditional singing session based on the coming of summer and the month of May.

The NLI event is free but booking is essential, while there is a €3 entry fee for the singing session.

Please email thefolkloreproject@gmail.com or phone/text 087 6470247 to book your place at the NLI, while no booking is required for An Goilín Singers’ Club.
