Since 2013, VAI has hosted a number of international curator visits to Ireland. The purpose of these visits is to introduce curators to Ireland-based artists with a view to collaborations or exhibition opportunities. We have hosted curators from Europe, the Americas, Africa, and Asia. The outcomes of visits have included the participation of Irish artists in exhibitions, events, the purchase of work for public and national collections, and other forms of engagement around the world.
The successful curators are provided with Travel, Accommodation, and organised meetings with visual artists that they wish to meet. The curator may also be invited to give a presentation and insight into their particular areas of interest as part of VAI’s speaking programme.
To apply for one of these visiting curator awards, curators must provide a professional résumé, details of their specific curatorial interests, and a selection of artists (minimum of 6 names) that they wish to meet. Applications should also include details of the types of opportunities that the applicant can offer Irish artists. The names should be taken from the following links that provide information on VAI members’ who have public profiles in our Members’ Directories, and/or names from our resource organisation membership listings. The Arts Directory link on our website gives access to these lists: https://visualartists.ie/
This is a rolling opportunity, meaning that Curators and Researchers can make an application at any time during the year.
